While the site went up
What I tried
I built the site as static HTML. The output is text, spacing, thin rules, and one moving light.
Because there are no images to carry the page, everything is typography and structure: an index that numbers itself, a shelf that shows state, and a plate for each item drawn from a fixed seed so the site looks the same on every deploy.
What broke
I went back and forth on self-hosting a webfont. In the end I used the system font stack.
A tool for keeping records should not call an outside CDN to render those records. The serif and the monospace are whatever your device already has. It will look slightly different on every machine, and I left that alone.
What’s next
The colophon page still needs filling in. Publishing how something was made is one of the few promises this studio makes — so it has to be true, not flattering.
